Building the Foundations of Learning For 25 Years

Program Introduction

The Epworth Preschool and Kindergarten program has served the Gaithersburg community for over 25 years and has a reputation for excellence in early childhood education. We look forward to welcoming you into the Epworth Preschool and Kindergarten family!

Educational Philosophy

Epworth offers to its preschool and kindergarten children a warm, supportive atmosphere that fosters creative activities and individual growth through experimentation and exploration.

Children are unique individuals with varying rates of growth, capabilities and interests.  They learn through trial and error, pleasure, imitation, participation and communication.  Through the use of our physical space and child-size equipment, Epworth has designed a learning center that provides children numerous opportunities to use their senses, muscles, curiosity and language.

Our instructional goals are to provide age-appropriate activities and experiences in Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Science, Music, Art and Physical Education.  Qualified teachers implement the curriculum in these areas by using materials and equipment that are consistent with the development of children ages 2 through 5 years.

Limitations and boundaries have been set to ensure safety and a feeling of security, but not to the extent of stifling enthusiasm and imagination.  Our goal is to assist children in developing a feeling of caring and sharing with others, self-awareness and self-assurance.  All Preschool & Kindergarten class curricula are approved through the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).

Admissions Policies

The Epworth Preschool and Kindergarten admits students of any race, color, national/ ethnic origin to all programs and activities available to the students at the school.  It does not discriminate in the administration of its educational/admissions
policies, scholarship/ loan programs, or any other academic, athletic or other school-administered programs.

Children are admitted to the Epworth Preschool & Kindergarten based on the following criteria:

2 Year Old Program:  children must be 2 by Sept. 1st before the beginning of the school year for which they are enrolled and do not need to be potty trained.

3 Year Old Program:  children must be 3 by Sept. 1st of the school year for which they are enrolled and must be potty trained.

Pre-Kindergarten Program:  children must be 4 by Sept. 1st of the school year for which they are enrolled and must be potty trained.

Kindergarten: children must turn 5 by Sept. 1st of the school year in which they are enrolled and must be potty trained.

Waiver for Early Entrance:  Early entrance is only available for the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs.  Waivers for early entrance are not available for children enrolling in the 2 and 3 year old programs.

In order to be considered for early entrance, children need to turn either 4 or 5 between Sept. 1st and Oct. 15th of the school year and must be potty-trained.  Four year old children accepted for early entrance may only enroll in the M/W/F morning or afternoon sessions.   Five year old children accepted for early entrance will be enrolled in the Kindergarten class that meets Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

To place a child in our program, parents must submit a registration form and a Financial Agreement.  The registration fee must be paid at the time of registration in order to confirm the child’s placement in the program.  Completed medical forms and emergency cards are due in the Preschool office by July 1st so that the child may begin classes in September.
